Nexus 7000 chassis
The original 7000 line runs Cisco NX-OS with side-to-rear airflow and dual supervisor slots, sized from a compact core to a full data center spine:
Nexus 7000 4-Slot: scales to 1.92 Tbps in a compact form factor with the same NX-OS feature set as the larger chassis, for small and midsized data center core and edge deployments.

Nexus 7700 chassis
The 7700 is the denser, front-to-back-airflow generation of the same platform, built around 10, 40 and 100 Gigabit Ethernet F-series modules:
Nexus 7700 2-Slot: the Nexus 7702, a 3RU two-slot chassis for small and medium data center interconnect, with feature and operational consistency with the rest of the line.
Nexus 7700 6-Slot: up to four I/O module slots supporting up to 192 x 1/10 GE ports, 96 x 40 GE or 48 x 100 GE in 9RU, with two dedicated half-slot supervisors for full redundancy.
Nexus 7700 10-Slot: scales to 42 Tbps with high-density 40 and 100 GE, for data center access, aggregation and core.
Nexus 7700 18-Slot: scales to 83 Tbps, the largest of the line, for data center core and Unified Fabric deployments.
Supervisors, fabric and I/O modules
A Nexus 7000 order is rarely just a chassis. Most quotes we build include Supervisor 2 or 2E modules, fabric modules to match the chassis, and the I/O modules the design calls for: F-series for high-density 10/40/100 GE and M-series where the larger routing tables and richer feature set are needed. Send the whole bill of materials and we price it as one order, or send the part number of the single card you are missing.
What the Nexus 7000 is used for
Data center core and aggregation, campus core, and data center interconnect. The platform’s NX-OS features are why it is still in service: virtual device contexts to carve one chassis into several logical switches, virtual port channels, FabricPath and OTV for extending Layer 2 between sites, and in-service software upgrades on redundant supervisors. Teams that built on it keep it running, and keep buying spares, supervisors and modules to do so.
Why the secondary market is where Nexus 7000 lives now
Cisco has moved most of the 7000 and 7700 line through its end-of-sale milestones, which is exactly why the gear is bought and sold here: the chassis still in racks need spares, the teams expanding them need modules Cisco no longer ships, and the data centers migrating to Nexus 9000 have chassis and cards to sell.
