How selling your Supermicro servers to IO South works

  • Send your list. System model (SYS-, AS- or SSG- number from the label), motherboard model, CPU, memory and drive configuration, quantity, condition, and where the hardware sits: your data center, a colocation facility, an office or storage. Call 855-272-5044 or email info@iosouth.com.
  • A fair-market offer at no cost, usually within one business day. We buy and resell these servers every week, so the offer is priced against real resale value, not a depreciation table.
  • One offer, one pickup. A single server, a rack, or a full decommission is the same conversation.
  • We handle logistics. We send a rep to palletize and wrap, arrange freight pickup, and pay for shipping. Evaluation, logistics, freight and payment are handled in house.
  • Your data stays yours. Drives are wiped or destroyed before anything is resold, or returned to you if your policy requires it.
  • United States and worldwide. We buy from businesses across the US and from data centers overseas.

Supermicro servers we buy

  • SuperServer rack systems: 1U and 2U single and dual socket servers. Intel generations X11 (Xeon Scalable 1st and 2nd generation), X12 (3rd generation) and X13 (4th and 5th generation), and AMD generations H11, H12 and H13 (EPYC 7001 through 9004 series). Common models include the SYS-1029P and SYS-2029U series, the SYS-620U and SYS-220U series, and the SYS-121C, SYS-221H and AS-1115HS series.
  • Ultra, WIO and Hyper systems: the dense dual-socket platforms that cloud and hosting providers deploy by the hundred.
  • TwinPro, BigTwin and FatTwin: 2U four-node and 4U eight-node systems with shared power. We buy them complete or with nodes missing.
  • SuperStorage: 2U and 4U storage servers with 24, 36, 45, 60 or 90 drive bays, with or without drives, plus JBOD expansion chassis.
  • SuperBlade and MicroBlade: enclosures, blade modules, chassis management and switch modules.
  • GPU SuperServers: PCIe GPU systems in 2U and 4U, and HGX systems. For the 8-GPU H100 and H200 systems see sell used Supermicro HGX H100 servers.
  • Edge and short-depth systems: the E300 and the 1U short-depth servers used in telecom and edge sites.
  • Loose components from the same decommission: motherboards, power supplies, backplanes, NVMe drives and network cards.

Why the exact model numbers matter with Supermicro

Supermicro builds to order. The same chassis can ship with different motherboards, backplanes, risers and power supplies, and the configuration decides who buys it on the other side. That is why we ask for three things from the label on each system: the system model, which begins with SYS, AS or SSG; the motherboard model, for example X11DPU, X12DPU or H12SSW; and the serial number. With those three we can usually make a firm offer from the list alone, without a site visit. If the labels are hard to reach, a photo of the rear of the chassis and a screenshot of the IPMI inventory page does the same job.

Multi-node systems: Twin, BigTwin and FatTwin

Twin systems pack two, four or eight independent servers into one chassis with shared power supplies. They resell best as complete systems with every node present and the power supplies installed, because a buyer needs the chassis to use the nodes. If some nodes are already gone, tell us how many remain and we quote what is there. If you are planning the decommission now, leave the nodes in the chassis until our rep arrives.

Storage servers and JBODs

SuperStorage systems and JBOD expansion chassis come to us from backup, archive and object-storage environments. The chassis, backplanes, controllers and expanders have value with or without the drives. If the drives stay in, we wipe or destroy them before anything is resold, or return them to you if your policy requires it. If you are removing drives for your own destruction process, tell us the systems ship diskless and the offer reflects that.

What to send for a Supermicro quote

  • System model and motherboard model from the label, and how many of each.
  • Processor model and count, total memory, and the drive configuration, or a note that drives are removed.
  • For Twin systems: nodes present per chassis. For storage: bay count, controller and whether drives are included.
  • GPU model and count for any GPU systems.
  • Condition, whether the systems are still racked and powered, and the location, including any colocation facility.
  • Photos of the front, rear and labels, or an IPMI inventory export.
  • Before handoff: reset the IPMI and BIOS passwords so the systems can be tested on arrival.

Where we buy

Data centers, colocation facilities, hospitals, schools, government offices and businesses across the United States, and overseas sites that are refreshing to newer systems. A decommission is a project, not a pickup: we plan the sequence, label and palletize on site, arrange freight, and keep a record of what left the building. IO South has offices in Marietta, Georgia and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Why sell your Supermicro servers to IO South

IO South is an established enterprise IT hardware company that buys and resells Supermicro servers, GPU systems, HPE and Dell servers and networking equipment every day. We stock more than a hundred Supermicro systems at any time, which is why we can tell you what a BigTwin or a SYS-2029U is worth this week and stand behind the number. One offer, one pickup, drives handled, freight paid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which Supermicro generations do you buy?

X13 and H13 systems on current Intel Xeon Scalable and AMD EPYC processors, X12 and H12 systems, and X11 and H11 systems. Older X10 systems are case by case. Send the exact model numbers and we tell you what has a resale offer.

Why do you need the motherboard and chassis model numbers?

Supermicro builds to order, so two servers with the same marketing name can have different boards, backplanes and power supplies. The system model, for example SYS-1029P-WTRT, plus the motherboard model, for example X11DDW-NT, tells us exactly what we are buying and lets us make a firm offer without a site visit.

Do you buy single Supermicro servers or only lots?

Both. One SuperServer is a normal purchase. So is a full data center of Twin nodes. Quantity affects the offer, not whether we make one.

Do you buy multi-node systems like TwinPro and BigTwin?

Yes. TwinPro, BigTwin and FatTwin systems with all nodes present, or with nodes missing if you tell us. Multi-node systems resell best complete, with the shared power supplies and the chassis intact.

Do you buy Supermicro storage servers?

Yes. SuperStorage 2U and 4U systems with 24 to 90 drive bays, with or without the drives. Tell us the bay count, the controller and whether drives are included. Drives are wiped or destroyed before resale, or returned to you.

Do you buy Supermicro GPU servers?

Yes. For HGX H100 and H200 systems see sell used Supermicro HGX H100 servers. PCIe GPU SuperServers with A100, L40S or other cards can go on the same list as your standard servers and we quote everything together.

My Supermicro servers are in a colocation facility. Can you still buy them?

Yes. Tell us the site and whether the systems are still racked and powered. We coordinate the pickup with the facility, send a rep to palletize and wrap, and arrange the freight.

Do you buy Supermicro servers from outside the United States?

Yes. Supermicro is common in cloud and hosting environments worldwide, and IO South buys from data centers overseas as well as across the United States. Send the location with your list.

What if the drives have already been removed?

Tell us the systems ship diskless and the offer reflects that. If drives are still installed, we wipe or destroy them before resale, or return them to you if your policy requires it.

Do you also sell Supermicro servers?

Yes. IO South sells tested used and new Supermicro systems. Browse the Supermicro category and the Supermicro GPU servers for current stock, or ask by email for a configuration.
