How selling your HPE ProLiant servers to IO South works

  • Send your list. Exact model and generation (DL380 Gen10, BL460c Gen10, Synergy 480 Gen11), CPU, memory and drive configuration, quantity, condition, and where the hardware sits: your data center, a colocation facility, an office or storage. Call 855-272-5044 or email info@iosouth.com.
  • A fair-market offer at no cost, usually within one business day. We buy and resell these servers every week, so the offer is priced against real resale value, not a depreciation table.
  • One offer, one pickup. A single server, a rack, or a full decommission is the same conversation.
  • We handle logistics. We send a rep to palletize and wrap, arrange freight pickup, and pay for shipping. Evaluation, logistics, freight and payment are handled in house.
  • Your data stays yours. Drives are wiped or destroyed before anything is resold, or returned to you if your policy requires it.
  • United States and worldwide. We buy from businesses across the US and from data centers overseas.

Sell used ProLiant servers by generation

HPE names its server generations in a straight line, which makes the resale picture easy to read. The newer the generation, the broader the pool of buyers and the stronger the offer.

  • Gen11: DL360 Gen11 (1U), DL380 Gen11 (2U), DL560 Gen11 (2U, four socket), DL380a Gen11 (GPU), ML350 Gen11 and ML110 Gen11 towers, Synergy 480 Gen11. Intel Xeon Scalable 4th and 5th generation, DDR5 memory, PCIe 5.0. The current platform, and the most requested on our buy side.
  • Gen10 Plus: DL360 Gen10 Plus and DL380 Gen10 Plus, with Intel Xeon Scalable 3rd generation processors, and the DL325 and DL385 Gen10 Plus on AMD EPYC. Strong resale demand from enterprises standardizing on a recent platform without buying new.
  • Gen10: DL360 Gen10, DL380 Gen10, DL560 Gen10, DL580 Gen10, ML350 Gen10, BL460c Gen10 and Synergy 480 Gen10 on Intel Xeon Scalable 1st and 2nd generation. Still the most common ProLiant generation in production and the one we buy the most of.
  • Gen9: DL360 Gen9, DL380 Gen9, DL560 Gen9, ML350 Gen9, BL460c Gen9 on Intel Xeon E5 v3 and v4. Resale value depends on configuration and condition, and complete working systems with memory installed sell best.
  • Gen8 and older: case by case. Some configurations still have buyers, others are best handled as a recycling and data destruction job. Send the list and we tell you which is which.

Rack servers: DL360, DL380, DL385, DL560 and DL580

The DL360 and DL380 are the two most common servers in the enterprise, and they are the heart of what we buy. Dual-socket, 1U and 2U, from the small-and-medium-business configurations with a single processor and 32 gigabytes of memory to fully built systems with two high-core-count processors, a terabyte or more of memory, NVMe storage and 25 or 100 gigabit networking. The AMD-based DL325 and DL385 sell to the same buyers. The four-socket DL560 and DL580 serve database and virtualization hosts, and they resell to the same market.

Configuration drives the offer. Tell us the processor models, memory total, drive bays and whether drives are included, the Smart Array controller, and the network adapters. A photo of the front, the rear and the service tag covers most of it.

Tower servers: ML350, ML110, ML30 and MicroServer

Towers are how HPE serves offices, clinics, schools and branch locations, and they come to us when a business moves to the cloud, consolidates to a rack, or closes a site. The ML350 Gen10 and Gen11 are full dual-socket servers in a tower case, the ML110 is the single-socket version, and the ML30 and MicroServer Gen10 Plus are the entry systems. All of them resell. If you have towers and rack servers at the same site, one list and one pickup covers both.

Blade servers: BL460c and the c7000 enclosure

The BL460c half-height blade and the c7000 enclosure were the standard HPE blade platform for more than a decade, and a lot of them are still running. We buy the blades (Gen8, Gen9 and Gen10), the enclosures, the Virtual Connect and FlexFabric interconnect modules, the Onboard Administrator modules, and the power supplies and fans. A fully populated enclosure with the interconnects still installed is worth more than the same parts sold separately, so if you can leave it assembled until pickup, do. Blade enclosures are heavy, and our rep handles the palletizing.

Synergy: frames, compute modules and Composer

HPE Synergy replaced the c7000 for new blade deployments. We buy Synergy 12000 frames, Synergy 480 and 660 compute modules in Gen10 and Gen11, Synergy Composer and Image Streamer modules, and the Virtual Connect SE interconnects. Synergy resells as complete frames more easily than as loose modules, because a buyer needs the frame and the interconnects to use the compute. Tell us how many frames, how they are populated, and whether the Composer is included.

Apollo and dense systems

Apollo 2000 (four nodes in 2U) and Apollo 4000 storage systems come to us from research, media and service-provider environments. The Apollo 6500 and the Cray XD670 are GPU systems, and we have a dedicated page for those: sell used HPE Cray XD670 and ProLiant GPU servers. If you are decommissioning a mix of standard ProLiant and GPU nodes, one list is fine.

What to send for a ProLiant quote

  • Model and generation for each server, and how many of each.
  • Processor model and count, total memory, and the drive configuration, or a note that drives are removed.
  • For blades and Synergy: the enclosure or frame count, how they are populated, and the interconnect modules installed.
  • Condition, and whether the systems are still racked and powered.
  • Location, including any colocation facility, and the earliest pickup date.
  • Photos of the front, rear and service tags. An iLO inventory export or asset list speeds everything up.

Where we buy

Data centers, colocation facilities, hospitals, schools, government offices and businesses across the United States, and overseas sites that are refreshing to newer systems. A decommission is a project, not a pickup: we plan the sequence, label and palletize on site, arrange freight, and keep a record of what left the building. IO South has offices in Marietta, Georgia and Cincinnati, Ohio.

Why sell your HPE ProLiant servers to IO South

IO South is an established enterprise IT hardware company that buys and resells HPE ProLiant servers, HPE and Aruba networking, and data center GPUs every day. Hundreds of ProLiant systems move through our Marietta, Georgia and Cincinnati, Ohio facilities, which is why we can tell you what a DL380 Gen10 or a Synergy frame is worth this week and stand behind the number. One offer, one pickup, drives handled, freight paid.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which HPE ProLiant generations do you buy?

Gen11, Gen10 Plus and Gen10 are the core of what we buy and resell. Gen9 still sells, so we buy it. Gen8 and older are case by case: tell us the models and quantities and we will say plainly whether there is a resale offer or a recycling path.

Do you buy a single ProLiant server or only full racks?

Both. One DL380 is a normal purchase. So is a 40-rack decommission. Quantity affects the offer, not whether we make one.

Do you buy HPE blade servers and c7000 enclosures?

Yes. BL460c Gen9 and Gen10 blades, the c7000 enclosure, the Virtual Connect and FlexFabric interconnects, and the power and fan modules. Send the blade count, generation and CPU and memory configuration. Enclosures resell best with the interconnects still installed.

Do you buy HPE Synergy frames and compute modules?

Yes. Synergy 480 and 660 Gen10 and Gen11 compute modules, the Synergy 12000 frame, Composer modules and Virtual Connect SE interconnects. Tell us how many frames and modules and whether the Composer is included.

Do you buy tower servers like the ML350 and ML110?

Yes. ML350 Gen10 and Gen11, ML110 Gen10 and Gen11, ML30 and the MicroServer Gen10 Plus. Towers are common in offices, clinics and schools, and we pick them up with the rest of the site.

My servers are in a colocation facility. Can you still buy them?

Yes. Tell us the site and whether the servers are still racked and powered. We coordinate the pickup with the facility, send a rep to palletize and wrap, and arrange the freight.

Do you buy HPE servers from outside the United States?

Yes. IO South buys from businesses across the United States and from data centers worldwide. Send the location with your list and we include freight and import handling in the plan.

What about the drives and our data?

Drives are wiped or destroyed before anything is resold, or returned to you if your policy requires it. If you have already pulled the drives, tell us the servers ship diskless and the offer reflects that.

Do you buy HPE GPU servers such as the Apollo 6500 or Cray XD670?

Yes. See sell used HPE Cray XD670 and ProLiant GPU servers for the GPU systems, or put them in the same list as your ProLiant rack servers and we quote everything together.

Do you also sell HPE ProLiant servers?

Yes. IO South sells tested used and new HPE ProLiant servers. Browse the HP ProLiant category, the DL360 Gen10 and DL380 Gen10 pages, or the blade servers for current stock.
